Within the activities of the project Galo: Culture and Citizenship, Galo da Madrugada maintains the Maestro Lima Neto School of Music, which promotes music classes for children and adolescents of limited resources in the Metropolitan Region of Recife. The space arose in 2011, from the union of ideas of orchestra conductor Manoel da Costa Lima Neto and Rômulo Meneses, president of Galo da Madrugada, who had the will to promote, within the cultural program, a professional activity that could serve young people.

Contents

Children and teenagers interested in the classes will have the opportunity to learn theoretical lessons, in which they will have the first contact with the world of music, knowing concepts such as notes, divisions and bars. Among the instruments offered, young people will be able to learn sax, trombone, trumpet, guitar, keyboard, drums or double bass. In addition to personal choice, the student’s connection to the instrument will be taken into consideration in the class assignments.

Tribute

On March 20, 2018, the “Escolinha de Música do Galo” was renamed the “Escola de Música Maestro Lima Neto” in honor of the maestro Lima Neto, who led the institution since its foundation, contributing in a positive way to the sociocultural development of our land.

Mirim Orchestra

As an incentive, those students who demonstrate great progress are recruited by the Orquestra Mirim do Galo da Madrugada and have the chance to make professional presentations at the club events or at events in which the Galo is invited. The Orquestra Mirim do Galo da Madrugada has performed in events such as Forrozão do Galo, Quinta no Galo, Cerimônia de Diplomação dos Eleitos in Pernambuco 2018, among others.

In the extensive repertoire that the little musicians play frevo classics such as: Galo de Ouro, Três da Tarde, Último Dia, Duda no Frevo and Vassourinhas.

Service

To participate in the Galo da Madrugada school the child must be enrolled in the regular school. The service is free and the enrolment can be made at any time of the year, in person, at the Maestro Lima Neto School, at Rua da Concórdia, Nº 736, São José neighborhood, in the center of Recife.
