One year after the founding of what was to become the largest carnival bloco in the world the club board felt the need to create their own song whose lyrics would convey the main message of the Galo: to invite everyone, as in a morning song, to participate in the revelry that had returned to the streets of Recife.

In 1979, sought by the board of directors of the club and tasked to carry out such a mission, the Professor José Mário Chaves created what would be the theme music of the largest carnival manifestation on the planet. “The Hymn of the Galo started with this request: to make a song that portrayed what was the Galo da Madrugada and to begin the carnival celebrations, stating that the party started very early,” recalls the composer.  

José Mário died in Recife, at age 74, in May 2018, as a result of a hemorrhage
