That the Galo da Madrugada is Carnival the whole year everybody already knows. But did you know that at the Enéas Freire Palace, the headquarters of the association, there is a restaurant on the first floor? It’s the Varanda do Galo Restaurant.
Open from Monday to Friday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the space has more than 40 options of dishes, including snacks and executive dishes, on the menu. In addition, there is a special menu on Thursdays and Fridays, in the buffet by weight.
Among the Varanda do Galo Restaurant’s varieties are regional foods such as carne de sol, meat and chicken cabidela. In addition to the Pernambuco food, we have options such as Spaghetti à Parisiense and Filé à Parmegiana. Fruit juices and desserts, such as the favourite milk pudding, are also among the most popular items on the menu.
“The dishes are prepared in the most natural way possible, with fresh ingredients, avoiding to the maximum the use of industrialized products”, says the manager Érika Pessoa.
Another differential of the Varanda do Galo Restaurant is the constant presence of elements of Carnival. In homage to the tradition of our Carnival, the executive dishes of the house were baptized with names of important associations and manifestations of the Pernambuco folklore. Examples are: the “Homem da Meia Noite” (chicken strogonofe, with Greek rice, fries and mixed leaves) and the Bacalhau do Batata (Dobradinha de bacalhau – coconut milk broth, white beans and cod chips, white rice, yellow flour and vinaigrette sauce).
The environment is ample, air conditioned and decorated with the colors of the Pernambuco flag, breathing culture in every detail. Ideal for presenting a little of Pernambuco’s culture to the tourist friend who came to Recife outside the Carnival season.
